Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes 31st July 2008

Things have been fairly quiet this week with very few reports coming in. Ron our bailiff on the Dane is frustrated by the lack of water and extremely low conditions the river is very clear and he is hoping for some rain to liven things up. The best catch he had to report this week was by Derek Wall who had twelve grayling the best being 1.5lb and a few small trout and one chub.

Cecily Mill has been flooded during the last week the reason for this is not clear however I believe it is now back to normal.

The Bridgewater is fishing very well along the whole length not many bream showing but good roach and quite a few of the tench we stocked three years ago are now turning up in catches at around the pound mark.  The Trent & Mersey is again becoming a popular destination with the carp fraternity more catch reports please.

Please note there is no access to the Moat at Frodsham. Works has been carried out on a pipe line on adjacent property and during this period yet again our lock has vanished so members can not gain access.

Some excellent new pegs have been completed by the work team on the far bank on Moore Quarry which now allows members the opportunity to fish more of the lake.

The Mersey fishing quite well at the moment with plenty of small fish to be had another reminder to members keep nets may only be used in matches on this water and barbless hooks at all times this is a condition of our lease.

Work will be continuing on Ackers pit shortly there is some more tree work to do and then the paths will be constructed by contractors engaged by Stockton Heath Parish council in mid August.

We will then be looking towards constructing new pegs and planting the margins before more stocking takes place in the autumn. If all goes to plan the fishery will be opening up again next season.  We have really missed this safe little oasis which has been the first place so many generations of young anglers in Warrington caught their first fish.

Frank and I went for a guide tour of the newly re- furbished and de -silted pools (Forsters Pools) at Wigan last week they are looking very good there is still a bit of tree trimming to do and car parks to complete. The banks are beginning to green up and they look perfect our Wigan team have been working alongside the contractors and they have all done us proud these pools will be a very popular with young and old members alike. Worthington lakes are fishing well and worth a visit all the lakes are providing good sport.

Keep your entries coming in for our catch of the month competition the July prizes are now up for grabs
