7th November 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

7th November, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Our annual carp stocking last week brought out the usual clutch of spurious comments, the main one being that we should have selected our own carp as other clubs do. So, whilst I trust Viv Sheers from VS Fisheries implicitly, I rang him to double check regarding travelling down to 'choose' any future C6 carp. His answer was that they only produce 200 such fish per year for the whole of the country and nobody is allowed to 'rummage through' and risk damaging such expensive fish. This option can take place with smaller fish, but they are not part of our stocking program. At least the members who attended and helped with the stocking were well impressed with the fish. Many thanks to you all.

There has been a fish kill on the Trent & Mersey Canal around the vicinity of the new marina at Billinge Green back towards Northwich. The oxygen levels are very low around the 4% mark and up to now the casualties seem low and it may be that the fish are running before whatever is the cause. The Environment Agency Fisheries Team are investigating. If any member has any information please ring the EA on 0800 807060 or myself on the number below.

Graham Belton swapped his last week's runner-up position in our Disabled & Over 60's match on the Trent & Mersey Canal for a win this week at Woodshaw Reservoir. Graham fished the pole at 8metres alternating between pinkie and red maggot for a mixed net of skimmers, roach, perch, and gudgeon weighing 4-8-0. There was a tie for second place when both Gordon Ramsden and Alan Brown put 3-10-0 on the scales.

Mike Pritchard defied the predicted Mersey high tide on Saturday and set up on a peg near Kingsway allotments where fishing a quiver tip he missed two immediate bites. These were followed by two roach followed by a quiet spell despite lots of fish topping. A change to waggler saw him end his session with around thirty mainly roach and three perch.

Please note the Sunday Mersey Match Series is back on the 12th November. Also, would members please book on with match organiser Ray Boden asap for the annual Christmas Fayre match.
