18th April, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Andrew Beddeson had Wide Hole all to himself on Good Friday where he spent an enjoyable four hours or so hours catching plenty of roach and perch plus three bream around 2.5 to 3lbs as a bonus. All were caught fishing caster over pellet. Although very happy with the sport on this Association owned fishery he was less pleased about the rubbish left by non-members. We are looking for volunteers to help out on this fishery so if any members fancy getting involved please drop me an email.

Regular contributor Eric J Smith took the week before Easter off work and managed to fit in three sessions on Cicely Mill Pool and three on Grey Mist Mere. Apart from one day on the Mist sport was on the slow side. Eric reckons that his favourite water Cicely still hasn't come to life yet but nevertheless he caught three hybrids on his first session, four tench all about 3lbs on the second, and three crucians the next day. On his first visit to Grey Mist Eric sat for nine hours without a bite then had six tench in six casts. The best three weighed 7-8-0, 7-10-0, and 8-1-0, all three beat his previous P.B. which had stood for years at 7-6-0. The next day produced one tench, again over seven pounds at 7-11-0 and Thursday was a blank.

Eric fished a maggot feeder with red maggots on the mist and his usual method feeder with hemp sprayed over the top on Cicely. To sum up his week I would think four tincas each beating his previous longstanding PB was a result.

It really is encouraging to see that more adult members are now taking youngsters for free taster sessions on the four designated fisheries which are Woodshaw Reservoir, Ackers pit, Bridgewater Canal, and Offa's Dyke Fisheries. Any adult member can take any youngster aged 12 years and under on a one to one basis on these fisheries for free.

Please note there is a working party at Sandiway Lakes this weekend and Big Sandiway only is closed from Saturday at 10am until about 4pm on Sunday. Only volunteers who put themselves down for the working party can fish on Saturday night.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries. Please email catch details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
