31st October 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

31st October, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

We will be carrying out our annual carp stocking on Saturday starting with Grey Mist Mere around 10am and then Moore Quarry followed by Sandiway Lakes. The fish are from VS Fisheries are all C6's (six summers old) and should be twenty pounders. Any members who fancy turning up are more than welcome.

Ian McGrath on his fifth visit to our stretch of the Ribble at Hurst Green on Monday just managed to net a cracking salmon before the end of the season the following day. Taken on fly the fish weighed between 16 and 17lbs but a low phone battery deprived him of a really top bragging photo. Ian released the fish to breed and hopefully return a bigger specimen.

On Monday Anthony Rough enjoyed a short session before work on the River Alyn at Hope where he fished a small stick-float and double maggot on the hook. Loose-feeding maggot and fishing one of the deeper bends he caught nine brown trout and seven grayling up to a pound. Not huge fish but a nice couple of hours with plenty of bites before work.

George Hollis made the most of his bridge-hole draw on our regular Monday Disabled & Over 60's match which was fished this week on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Northwich. George fished pole and maggot to catch a mixed net of roach, skimmers, and a few chunky perch for a weight of 5-15-8 that gave him over 1lb buffer over second placed Graham Belton. Graham fished the same method but missed out on the perch for 4-12-0. Nineteen fished.

Predictably low weights on Sundays Mersey Match Series but local rod Jim Gannon fishing a ground bait feeder and maggot just kept ounces ahead of second placed Mersey devote Paul Harding. Jim put 3-4-0 of roach on the scales against Paul's 3lbs dead. No match until 12th November due to high tides.

24th October 2017 Warrington Anglers Guardian Notes

24th October, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Mike Pritchard intended to fish the Mersey on Friday but conditions were not ideal and quite windy so he decided to stay local and visit Ackers Pit. He set up in a sheltered peg and caught from the off using light waggler tactics and alternating between bronze maggot and pinkie plus feeding a few grains of hemp every cast. He caught plenty of roach in the 3 to 6oz range however a late change to caster brought a better stamp of roach in the 10/12oz bracket plus a few chunky perch. In all a decent days fishing and he went home a happy angler.

If you weren't a 'B' you were out of the frame on our Disabled & Over 60's match fished in the 'Dead Length' on Monday. Graham Belton enjoyed his first win for some time despite regularly knocking on the door. Committee member Graham fished the pole and alternated between pinkie and caster for a silver fish net of 5-6-0. It was Derek Bibby who took the runner-up spot with only a whisker separating the winner and himself with a weight of 5-6-2. Two further B's completed the prize line-up (see results below) and eighteen fished in an almost all roach event.

The king is back!!! Aka Ant Higham 'the King of the river' who after an absence seems to have got his Mojo back. By winning our Sunday Mersey series with a weight of 5-13-0 which included a mega-bonus bream of 3lbs that alone would have given him the winners money. Fishing a ground-bait feeder and maggot he also added a 12oz bream plus twelve tiny bootlace eels to over double the weight of second placed Ray Boden. Ray fished the same method for a net of 2-4-0 made up of fifteen tiny roach, two eels and three small skimmer bream.

Something to whet your appetite is that a new water should be coming online in the next few months, although obviously I cannot divulge details it is one that should give rewards to those members who like a challenge.

It is that time of the year when reports are getting scarce so anything of interest is more than welcome.
