Our Spring League is still headed by Bob Campbell who clocked up another section win on the Sankey St Helens Canal to give him a running total in six matches of seven points. With only two matches remaining it looks as though it is going to be a two horse race against ever consistent Phil Cross who also added a section win to his score putting him on eight points. The nearest to them is Martin Griffiths on thirteen. Guest angler Bob Clough took the individual honours with 8-11-0 made up of a mixed bag of rudd, roach, skimmers, and an eel.

Fish on the Bridgewater Canal are shoaling ready for spawning which is evident by the poor results of our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday where Mike Daniels although in a similar situation to his other competitors with not too many bites one of his resulted in a big bonus bream to which he added a few small roach for a winning weight of 4-6-8. Trev Bainbridge followed in runner-up spot with 1-5-6.

It was an entirely different story for Ian Thomas however as on his visit to the Bridgewater Canal at Agden he enjoyed hectic action from his first put in. Loose feeding maggot he pole fished against the far shelf to catch roach, skimmers, and five bream of around 3lbs. Luckily after countless last casts the session ended abruptly when he ran out of bait otherwise there was a real danger that his dinner would have been in the dog.

As regular readers will know I very rarely report on my own angling trips, well on Saturday afternoon I managed to escape to Moore Quarry for a few hours, result a blank; not to be water licked a rematch the following evening made it a combined zero score. However I will be back because the setting on this fishery located just outside Warrington is magnificent and I know it carries a head of quality fish because I could see them, just couldn't connect. Speaking to members a few tench, bream, and the occasional carp are being caught but some members I understand have been targeting the large roach but are keeping the results close to their chest. Everyone was full of praise for the newly constructed pegs courtesy of our band of intrepid volunteers, well done lads your labours are appreciated.

I haven't had many members send me their catch details from our Offa's Dyke Fishery so our local fishery volunteers' team have taken it upon themselves to put the matter right by holding their own fish-in. I am holding my breath that there will be some results to report next week. Also this week we will be planting marginal and other native plants purchased from the Liverpool National Wildflower Centre.

Growing numbers of our members are gradually discovering the cracking sport that can be had at our Worthington Reservoirs complex. Although the smallest one is closed until the 16^th June the middle reservoir provides fishing to suit a variety of tastes be it carp, bream, or roach action.  Lee Camsey set his stall out for bream on Good Friday and using a groundbait feeder set-up with floating maggot on the hook. He ended his session with fifteen bream over 3lbs with the best at 5lbs plus lots of good sized roach and a few perch. Oh, and mega sunburn in the bargain.

I have been itching to get out for a tench session on Grey Mist Mere so last week I actually managed a three hour stint. Between members phone calls I landed a cracking brace caught on maggot feeder with the best around 7lbs. And whilst there was no action whatsoever on my carp rod Phil Lindley on the next peg was well pleased with his brace of mirrors weighing in at 19-4-0 and 17lbs on only his third trip to the Mist. His last visit resulted in four tincas with which he was equally happy. Successful method was homemade boilie tipped with sweetcorn.

Adie Paddock fished the same venue on Saturday and caught eight tench to 6lbs and returned for more of the same on Easter Monday when he caught another five of the red eyed beauties. The icing on the cake however was a 17lbs mirror carp which took a lot of playing to the net on his 0.18 hook length.

Rixton Claypits have been producing rewards aplenty in the form of bream and tench for several members who have put their club first and collected rubbish left by both anglers and others. They know who they are so I will not name and embarrass them but on behalf of the majority of our decent members a sincere thanks. There is now a growing swell of members who are quite prepared to report bad behaviour and litter louts.  

A set of keys has been found in our gate lock at Appleton Reservoir. If the person contacts me with a detailed description and membership number I will re-unite him with his property. For the record the fishery has been producing some carp action and decent roach on groundbait feeder tactics.
