13th September 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
The popularity of our Weaver Navigation stretch was endorsed again this past weekend by both Jason Best and Neil Davies. Jason who I remember as one of our junior match anglers having regularly represented WAA in both regional and national championship events really enjoyed his afternoon session, nothing big but plenty of bites to keep him occupied. Neil had a nice few hours catching a decent net of roach and perch taken mainly on caster fishing five sections of pole. Anglers regularly pass comments that this venue is really well looked after…… well, the guy responsible, Martin aka 'the mystery maintainer' fished it himself last Wednesday and was justly rewarded with 184 fish during his 5hour session, mainly skimmers, plus bream and rudd hybrids. He ground-baited his swim topping up regularly and using dead red maggot on the hook at 4 to 5metres.
On Tuesday David Tomkinson or as my wife has now christened him, 'The Tench Whisperer' was on Grey Mist again enjoying yet another productive tench session. When I rang him during the afternoon, he had already landed seventeen tincas despite losing a few in the weed. The biggest weighed in at 8lbs, half a dozen around the 7lbs mark, the rest ranging from 4 to 6lbs. It is little wonder the Mist fish are packing on weight as he fed around a kilo of sweetcorn, 0.5k of hemp, and the same amount of 10mm boilies.
Phil Brown fished at Appleton Reservoir on Friday morning to hopefully tempt some of the quality roach which the fishery holds. Both rods were set-up using a method feeder, one with corn on the hook and the other baited with mini krill boilies. Phil ended up with a few small roach, a baby mirror carp, and a much bigger one of 21lbs which gave a good account of itself on the lighter tackle. Phil commented that he was really chuffed with the smaller fish which really shows the potential of the fishery.
Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's Match was fished this week on the Bridgewater Canal at Stage Lane, Lymm. Rod Fraser was the clear winner this week with a catch of roach and perch boosted by a bonus 2.5lbs bream for a total weight of 5-9-0 taken on pole fished caster and maggot. Alan Brown made it a repeat performance of the previous weeks match again taking the runner-up spot but having to share it with George Barber aka 'The Breadman' when they both weighed in 3-15-0. I have no idea what bait Alan used but I think it is a safe bet that George used the white stuff.
