Kyle Tilbury quite literally fished under the stars at Grey Mist on his Monday overnight session bravely leaving his bivvie at home, but thankfully both the weather and the fish were kind to him.  There were plenty of carp showing and within two hours he landed his first fish, a 19-3-0 mirror. Kyle caught three further mirrors during the session weighing in at 14-14-0, 21- 12-0, and 24-4-0. All fish fell to a simple multi-rig and a light scattering of boilies with a top up after each fish. This was his first session with no shelter this year and the best since re-joining Warrington Anglers back in February.

Committee member Ade Green decided on a rare trip to the Bridgewater Canal at Pickerings Bridge on Sunday where just as he was setting up a familiar voice whispered from behind a well-known Anglo Saxon greeting and lo and behold there standing behind him was fellow committee member Mike Dench who by sheer fluke had also chosen the same venue.  Anyway, the upshot was that Ade fished the pole at 13metres loose-feeding pinkie for five hours for about forty-five fish, mainly roach, a couple of perch, and a skimmer that turned out to be the biggest fish at about 0-8-0. Mike fished pinkie and caster at 14metres catching a dozen or of the same mix.

Generally around the fisheries bream and tench and a few small carp from Rixton Claypits; plenty of silvers, skimmer, plus small carp from Statham Pool; The Mount for roach sport with some decent specimens showing along with tench, bream, and carp; and although carp sport has slackened off at Appleton Reservoir regular contributor Phillip Brown still managed a new PB on Wednesday weighing 25-2-0.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match was on the Bridgewater Canal at Stage Lane on Monday and saw George Barber, the 'Breadman', take another win with the help of a bonus 3lbs bream to which he added 2lbs of roach for a total weight of 5-1-8. Fishing the pole at 11 metres his recipe for the win was, "Two slices in the blender and two in the microwave." All the first three anglers were in adjacent pegs and all enjoyed the advantage of a bonus slab with Mike Worley taking the runner-up spot with 4-9-0.

A word of caution that a member was banned by the management committee this week when he was caught with alcohol on one of our fisheries. There are no excuses, 'I didn't know' just does not wash, simply read the rules which apply to everyone.

Ian Millington reckons that the Mount at Buckley is a brilliant place to fish, no doubt borne out by his morning session on Friday when he had a mixed catch of silvers, a bream, and a tench, losing a better one when it snagged-up. All fell to either corn or red maggot. He was back again on Sunday but tried the smaller back lake where he included a decent bream and a small carp in his catch. Thanks to those members who are openly sharing their experiences with fellow anglers to help make both existing members and newcomers fishing experiences more productive.

Phil Brown had a busy day session at Appleton Reservoir on Thursday fishing with his mate Jess Steele catching eight carp that included three twenties, but Jess landed the biggest at 25lbs. A few nice carp reported from Grey Mist and Appleton Reservoir over the Bank Holiday weekend with also a fair amount of tench action from the Mist. Ian Simpkin had eight in a session with the best a 7lbs 12ozs specimen caught on double red maggot using a small groundbait feeder.

I finally managed to get out on Monday fully intending to fish with the 'over the hill mob' at Woodshaw but I got absolutely soaked whilst loading the car and being a weather wimp took it as a sign and went to Cicely Mill Pool instead after I had changed. There was only one other angler on the fishery who had been there since early morning targeting carp but he hadn't seen any signs of one. Perhaps I should have taken this as an omen but carried on regardless. Fishing pole and maggot, I missed a bite, hit one that shot off and slipped the hook; that was it. Need to get out more.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match at Woodshaw Reservoir on Monday was won by local rod Alan Pendlebury with a catch of crucians and roach for a weight of 9-4-0. They were all caught on the pole at 10metres alternating between caster and pellet. Jimmy Byrne took second place with a similar catch of 7-4-0 taken on red maggot.
