13th September 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

13th September, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Fishing has been slow for Carl Harrison on Grey Mist and matters didn't improve much this past week for after seven hours without a bite he would have blanked if a tench had not taken his pellet on the last cast of the day. Not one to give up easily his second trip was a little better with a tench of a couple of pounds and a new PB at 6lb 12oz. Saturday he decided to visit Woodshaw Reservoir having not fished there for a while. He fished pellet on a small feeder and had an enjoyable session catching eight skimmer bream, twenty two crucians, and one roach. A return to the same peg on Sunday saw him rewarded with eight skimmers and twenty one crucians during a much shorter afternoon session. Carl told me his next trip is back to the Mist to face his nemeses.

A couple of weeks ago Eric J Smith enjoyed three sessions on Cicely Mill Pool, (well two of them anyway). Everything started well with three decent bream and seven crucians to just over 2lbs followed by his second session, another good day with nine crucians and a bream. On his final session it was blowing a gale when he arrived and to make matters worse he realised his bait was still in the fridge at home. Undeterred he rummaged in his holdall and finding some pellets decided to give it a go. Taking a breather before casting out his rod Eric did 'a first' and nodded off on his chair waking up around four hours later looking like a sun dried tomato. To make matters worse when he tried to move his back had gone into spasm and he had to hobble painfully back to his car for his painkillers. Returning to his peg it had been treated to an avian version of carpet bombing, nothing had been spared. After a quick clean-up he decided food and drink was in order and with coffee poured he was starting to feel better until reaching into his bag he found a huge black slug munching away at his favourite pork pie. Definitely a session to forget with the total catch for the day being a solitary tiny foul hooked roach.

Saturdays have become Ray Boden day on our popular Mersey Saturday Series as match organiser Ray enjoyed yet another win making it four in a row. Alternating between pole and stick-float he loose fed maggots to keep the bites coming resulting in a catch of roach, chub, and dace for 10-6-0. Second placed Martin Lenihan just kept Jimmy Byrne at bay by an ounce as he weighed in his pole caught roach and perch net for 9-6-0.

Ant Higham AKA the King of the River is back with a win on our Sunday Mersey match. Ant fished his usual groundbait feeder and maggot for a catch of roach and perch weight of 5-6-0. Derek Bibby was the runner-up with 5-3-0 taken on pole and maggot.

Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match on the River Mersey at Victoria Park saw Weaver veteran Rod Fraser work his magic on a different river winning with a net of roach and perch for 6-14-0. Lenny Dutton was the runner-up with 4-12-0. Note next week is back on the Bridgewater.

One to note is that if anyone reports any discharges into our rivers or in fact any of our fisheries it is vitally important to report the incident immediately and not hours or days later.

6th September 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

6th September, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Ian stringer enjoyed a good session on the Mount at Buckley last week where he set out with the intention of targeting the roach but ended up with a right mixed bag of eight carp to 12lbs, three tench, some cracking red fins to around the pound and a half mark, and a solitary perch that weighed at 2-10-0 and took single maggot. Ian fished both the tip with a groundbait feeder, and the pole both methods with maggot on the hook.

Following his last week's success Mike Pritchard was back on the Mersey again this week where he had between seventy and eighty roach and perch from peg nine. Light waggler and loose-fed maggots close in kept the fish coming steadily throughout his session with some of the roach between 6 and 8ounces.

Pole and maggot did it again for Ray Boden to take another win on our popular Mersey Series on
Saturday to make it three in a row with 8-13-0 of roach, skimmers, and perch. Second placed Alan Birchall fished pole and caster targeting the better stamp of roach for 7-13-0. I don't normally mention third outside of the results but committee member Mike Dench who is a game angler came in at third with 5-1-0. I promised I would give him a mention when he catches his first salmon of the year but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Martin Lenihan won our Sunday Mersey match after coming second three times with a net of perch and skimmers to 12ounces taken on pole maggot. Derek Bibby was the runner-up with 7-14-0 on the same method.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match was fished again on the River Mersey at Victoria Park was won by veteran angler Jimmy Byrne with 6-9-0 of roach and perch. George Barber who left his bread punch at home came second with a weight of 5-9-0.
