25th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

25th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Our Howleston Cup junior match held on Ackers Pit didn't see a single carp caught but there were roach, rudd, and lots of small tench. The latter is indeed good news as this means that they had a successful breeding year in 2012. Callum Brown won the event with 5-6-0.

Peter Lang fished our stretch of the River Wye at Hay on Wye last weekend and was duly impressed with the fishery. He lost three barbel in heavy weed before he landed a cracking fish of 10-1-0 on hair-rigged sweetcorn plus fake corn to balance the bait. He also had chub to 5lbs during his five hour session. Ian Swain also had a good catch of four barbel, the best 8-12-0 plus seven chub on banded halibut pellet feeding hemp and 4mm pellet. Please ensure that you do not under any circumstances park anywhere other than on the right before the sewerage treatment plant adjacent to our caravan and shed.

Reports of good catches of grayling, dace, and small chub from the River Dee at Shocklach to both stick float and feeder tactics. James Roberts estimated that he had 20lbs plus further downstream at Caldecott Hall, although he did mention the walk was rather healthy. There has been mention that WAA have no regard for maintaining shared farm tracks that lead to both owned and leased river fisheries. This of course is not the case, the issue is simply the practicalities and cost of trying to upkeep annually washed out and farm plant damaged tracks. If anyone has any ideas or wishes to help please get in touch.

The very best of luck to both our Intermediate and Junior Teams on Saturday as they take part and represent WAA in the Angling Trust National Championships at Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery, Warwickshire.

18th june Warrington Guardian notes

18th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Well the new season on the rivers hasn't started with much of a bang more a gentle whimper. The Mersey series saw fifteen stalwarts back on the bank no massive catches but  a pleasure to be back fishing on moving water. Next Sundays match is a fundraiser for the Ladies England team so the more the merrier see coming events for details.

The reports from the Dee are of good mixed bags and a member reported that sadly the track at Worthenbury is still very rough so unless in a 4x4 it's best approached with great care.

I would like to remind members that they must park sensibly when visiting all our fisheries leaving a note in your windscreen saying `WAA gone fishing' before blocking someone's access gate is not acceptable which is what happened at the weekend at the poultry farm on Loton Park Estate .

Matthew Noonan has enjoyed some good sport at Rixton last week with a nice catch of bream up to 6.5lb and tench to 5lb all on method feeder. On Thursday he visited grey Mist and set his stall out for carp however they carp had other things on their minds and he had to settle for a new PB tench of 7.5lb.

Frank Davis also had a nice 22lb 5oz mirror carp there weighed on his shiny new Rueben's and a couple of missed runs during his mid week session. The tench were obliging for Phil Hancock's when he enjoyed an early session on Monday he tried the usual sweetcorn, pellet, etc but only maggot would do he finished his session at 11.30am having had twelve tench averaging around 5lb with the best 6.9lb. He didn't enjoy having to clear two carrier bags of someone else's litter up first though.

Please note Ackers pit will be closed on Saturday until about 5pm for the juniors Howleston Cup match junior members should book on with Helen Dagnall at Cheshire Angling or on 01925 635486

11th June, 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

11th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

A bench has now been sited along the Bridgewater Canal in the memory of young member Jack Bellis who tragically lost his life last year. 'Jack's Bench' as it will be known is sited on the canal bank between Grappenhall and Stanney Lunt Bridges or for those who know the area behind St Wilfreds Drive. Thanks to all those who kindly gave donations and as promised Jack's dad Andy is putting the residue amounting to £350 into our junior fund. Also the support of the Manchester Ship Canal Company and local residents is likewise appreciated.

The Mersey Series starts again on the magical 16th of this month when the coarse fishing season re-opens following the enforced ninety day lay-off. I must mention the team of members that spent last weekend strimming around pegs, carrying out repairs where needed, and general tidying ready for the big day on Sunday. I am told that Arthur Plumb handled the strimmer like a veteran and even went to the gym for a workout later.

Both our Supercup teams had a close run affair in round two of their respective matches. Our 'green team' fished against Trafford Angling Supplies at Partridge Lakes and drew on points but got through on weight count back with 186-11-0 against Traffords 184-4-0. Sadly our other team on a similar count back lost out by a mere 2.5ozs.

Mandi and Mark Aitchison managed a tench session on Grey Mist Mere last week where for a change Mark managed to outdo his wife with fourteen tench against her six. All the fish were males as the females were all waiting to spawn. I think by now most will have done the business and will be cleaning off.

Rhys Cattermole had a great morning session on Woodshaw Reservoir this week catching 30plus crucians up to the pound mark on dead maggots and soft pellet. His session was marred somewhat by a middle-aged angler who clearly breached our fish welfare code by walking to the adjacent peg to see his mate with a small tench dangling from his line. Had he been identified he would now be an ex-member. Who needs morons like him!

4th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

4th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Fish are taking advantage of the warmer weather and are more engrossed in breeding as opposed to feeding on the majority of our fisheries. Bailiffs will section areas off where considered necessary and there will be no excuses for fishing where fish are spawning. In any case there is no glory in landing a fish full of spawn and the vast majority of anglers are more eager to watch their antics and use the opportunity to spot potential future target fish whilst they are in the margins.

With the exception of Woodshaw Reservoir that fished quite well the remainder of our match results on the Bridgewater Canal were abysmal with in some cases mere ounces making the frame. At Woodshaw it was up and coming young lady Eve Fletcher that showed the lads a clean pair of heels with a weight of 12-4-0 and over 3lbs to spare over second placed Jake Parkinson on 9lbs.

Gari Hughes reports a couple of carp from Sandiway Small Lake, the best a  21-3-0 mirror  plus a few tench including one of 6-15-0 and a PB of 7-5-0. All fell to Magic Munch Baits N1 semi popup hi-viz boilies.

Rhys Ellis had a few carp and tench from Grey Mist Mere this past week which included a 14-7-0 common, 15-6-0 mirror, and another of 20lbs on the dot. I am told a good number of fish were landed towards the end of last week but I understand sport has now come to a virtual standstill.

I visited The Mount at Buckley over the weekend and despite being flooded and the high water conditions causing mayhem to anglers the carp and tench were completely oblivious and still feeding. As reported last week there are only three fishable double pegs. Daz Jones had eleven carp and a few tench.
