25th June 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Our Howleston Cup junior match held on Ackers Pit didn't see a single carp caught but there were roach, rudd, and lots of small tench. The latter is indeed good news as this means that they had a successful breeding year in 2012. Callum Brown won the event with 5-6-0.
Peter Lang fished our stretch of the River Wye at Hay on Wye last weekend and was duly impressed with the fishery. He lost three barbel in heavy weed before he landed a cracking fish of 10-1-0 on hair-rigged sweetcorn plus fake corn to balance the bait. He also had chub to 5lbs during his five hour session. Ian Swain also had a good catch of four barbel, the best 8-12-0 plus seven chub on banded halibut pellet feeding hemp and 4mm pellet. Please ensure that you do not under any circumstances park anywhere other than on the right before the sewerage treatment plant adjacent to our caravan and shed.
Reports of good catches of grayling, dace, and small chub from the River Dee at Shocklach to both stick float and feeder tactics. James Roberts estimated that he had 20lbs plus further downstream at Caldecott Hall, although he did mention the walk was rather healthy. There has been mention that WAA have no regard for maintaining shared farm tracks that lead to both owned and leased river fisheries. This of course is not the case, the issue is simply the practicalities and cost of trying to upkeep annually washed out and farm plant damaged tracks. If anyone has any ideas or wishes to help please get in touch.
The very best of luck to both our Intermediate and Junior Teams on Saturday as they take part and represent WAA in the Angling Trust National Championships at Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery, Warwickshire.
