27th July 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
The ` dynamic duo' Ernie Hutchinson and Dickie Wernham have been on their travels again this week and with some excellent results. Their first report was from Worthington lakes where the best method on the day was waggler and feeding caster or maggot which produced good mixed bags including quality perch to just over 1.5lb.
Sunday saw the pair at another of their favourite venues, Association owned Widehole at Poynton. Surprise, surprise, no poles here, traditional skills only with waggler and caster/maggot being the method of choice for bream to 2.5lb and roach around 8ozs . Highly recommended for a visit.
Local water bailiff Mike Burdock had a day off from pruning and strimming at Widehole and found Cecily Mill pool in good form and despite getting a good soaking he caught lots of bream and tench to 2lb plus three beautiful pristine crucians the best was 2lb all caught on good old worm. Neil Sutherland also enjoyed some good sport there and was delighted to include a 17lb lovely common in his catch. The carp took his prawn bait during what Neil describes as a horrendous downpour! It feels like summer has deserted us already but it seems to be suiting the fish!
The Mersey is still fishing well as the Sunday match proved twelve anglers who weighed caught over 54lb between them and good mixed bags were the order of the day on pole tactics. The river also provided good sport for our junior match squad on Monday when they had the chance to fish the river thanks to our coaching team and local members who gave the m one to one tuition.
Veteran Stan Charnock managed to wrestle a tricky 2lb 5 eel into the net during Mondays D&o60's match at London Bridge but the next two he had beat him.
National fishing month is now in full swing with organised coaching events all around the country. The aim is to introduce newcomers of all ages to angling it is an ideal opportunity to try angling and would be especially useful parents or Grandparents who don't fish themselves but have a youngster who is keen to try. See www.nationalfishingmonth.co.uk for events in your area.
Please continue sending in your catch reports as they are valuable to both your fellow members and your committee. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
