11th July 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

11th July, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes[f1]

The ink was hardly dry on new member Tony Koziol's membership book when he made his debut visit to one of our fisheries. He chose the picturesque Cicily Mill Pool where despite an initial dodgy car park key experience he went on to enjoy a full day's fishing catching lots of roach, a few perch and the odd skimmer. He didn't keep a tally but reckons that he must have caught in excess of eighty fish. The majority came to maggot, odd fish to caster and bread; but all the better roach in the 6 to 8-inch range were caught on sweetcorn. Unfortunately, he missed out on his target fish of crucians and tench, but as he said, "That's for another day".

Our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday was fished this week on the Bridgewater Canal at Pickering's Bridge which used to be my favourite stretch of the canal, that is until it was dredged and marginal aquatic plants removed. It's been a good number of years but the length has strangely never regained its former form. Warrington AA Vice President Geoff Brooks put together a net of small roach to add to a bonus 2lbs bream for a winning weight of 3-8-6. Alan Brown repeated his last week's performance and took second place with 2-14-3.

Committee member Ade Green has been knocking on the door for sometime, well this week was the week it opened with a well deserved Mersey Series win. Ade put together an all roach catch on pole and maggot for 7-7-0. https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gifLocal match ace and all-rounder Jimmy Byrne took the runner-up spot with a roach and perch catch on the same method for 6-13-0.

Our regular Mersey Sunday Series was won by, need I say it….Ray Boden who put 10lbs of mainly roach plus twelve perch on the scales for exactly 10-0-0. Ray stuck to his winning formula of pole and maggot. Jim Gannon took second place using a groundbait feeder and maggot and boosted his net of small roach and perch with a very welcome bonus 5lbs bream for a total weight of 7-3-0.

On the Tuesday Mersey match Ray Boden again took the money with a weight of 5-2-0 made up of roach, perch, and a welcome sight of 2oz skimmer bream amongst his catch. Jim Gannon was in second place with 4-15-0 taken on feeder and maggot.
