All our fisheries are now ice free and I hope it stays this way. Our Wigan bailiff team tell me that Association owned Woodshaw Reservoir is producing some good sport following the thaw, mainly roach and the occasional crucian. This pocket sized fishery is worth a visit.

Jim Spellman soon got amongst the carp at the Mount fishery using simple method feeder tactics and adding some dampened micro-pellets to his ground-bait mix with small cubes of hair-rigged meat on the hook. Considering the diverse and changeable weather conditions he was more than satisfied with his eleven fish catch. Best fish, although not a specimen was a mirror of about 12lbs but it certainly beats blank sessions such as my own two recent outings.

Bad news is that some kind person has broken into our palisade fenced compound at Grey Mist Mere and was probably sleeping rough on Friday evening. A fire was lit in an old oil drum which spread to stored timber and then to our portaloo. Only the toilet roll holder remained and the intense heat caused a lot of damage to and within our store container. If any member has any information please contact either myself at the number below or the police who are investigating. In the interim members will be required to make their own toilet arrangements (to be taken home along with any other empty packaging).

Trevor Bainbridge won our Disabled& Over 60's match on Monday with 2-10-0 of roach to bread punch and as luck would have it a change to worm fished down the track added a bonus perch to his catch. Only ounces separated the next three places and saw Jimmy Byrne relegated into fourth place being beaten by Pete Critchley and Lennie (end peg) Dutton. Please note below the temporary draw venue for the Christmas Eve match.

The Sunday Mersey Series was even harder than previous weeks and until the river settles down next weeks match on the 23^rd has been cancelled but there will be a Boxing Day Special to give members a break from all that Christmas pud and turkey. For the record Roy Everson only needed 12ounces for the win and Ross Wightman was runner up with 9ounces. I don't think I have seen it produce such poor weights so it surely can only improve.

Just a quick update on last Wednesdays stocking at Association owned Sandiway Lakes, the two mirrors I mentioned at 26lbs actually weighed 27-2-0 and 27-1-0 and were the largest so far produced and supplied by V S Fisheries. These fish should rocket in size and are the fastest growers from around 9000 fish and are only 6.5 years old! The 28 mirrors and two commons released into the small lake averaged 8.3lbs and if current growth rates are anything to go by this also should be a pretty awesome fishery in the future, not just for carp but for roach, rudd, perch, tench, and bream.

The Disabled& Over 60's match on Monday was fished in the 'dead length' as most areas were covered in ice. This is getting to be a bit repetitive but well done to Jimmy Byrne  who won yet again, this time with 5-11-0 of small roach and skimmers taken on the pole and punch bread. Close behind was Ron Durr with a similar net of fish for 5-7-8.There were lots of 2 and 3lb weights which for this time of the year is good news indeed. Pete Critchley spent an age playing a pike before being told 'they don't count' and veteran angler Geoff Brooks complained that he had a total of 116 fish and didn't even win his section. More serious was that he didn't have the time to eat his meat and potato pie!

The Sunday Mersey Series again fished really hard and with extra water and debris in the river. Paul Harding added a successive win to his belt with 6-2-0 which included roach plus a bonus bream. Match organiser Ross Wightman was runner up and back in the frame but with a meagre 14ounces.

Members are reminded that when visiting our Wide Hole fishery at Poynton that they should either park on our land or on the public car park. On no account must they park on the lane that runs adjacent to our fishery.

The neatly bagged but embarrassing growing mound of members rubbish has been removed by volunteers from the car park on the small lake. It really leaves me speechless with the moronic behaviour of a minority of our members, surely if you bring it with you it is no great strain to take away the empty packaging. Be warned the committee are adamant that any member found depositing rubbish on or near any of our fisheries will receive an automatic life ban. Likewise this also applies on any of our fisheries for being in possession/consuming alcohol or drugs, violence, or any fish welfare issues including illegally introducing or transferring fish. No warning, just a straight ban.

Reminder that existing night permits expire at the end of the month and are available from HQ on a Friday evening or by post. There has been an increase to £35 for the senior permit but the junior remains unchanged.

With the cold and wet weather Ackers Pit has been almost devoid of anglers this past week or so, however committee member Mike Worley can't get enough of the place. With the prevailing clear water conditions Mike has been fishing running line tactics using a small crystal waggler fished at two rods distance. At the business end was a size 22 barbless fine wire hook tied to .08 line. On Saturday the only difference being that part of the fishery was covered with ice, but undeterred he started by feeding a few pinkies with big maggot on the hook and soon started picking up roach in the 12oz bracket. He ended his short session with two dozen plump red fins.

A bit of good news is that on Wednesday (5^th December) before the Guardian goes to print we will hopefully be stocking the remainder of the carp ordered for Sandiway Lakes. It looks like there will be approximately 30 C4 fish for the small lake and two 26lbs mirrors for the larger fishery. They are of course being supplied by VS Fisheries and come with a known pedigree. There are also bream, roach, and carp due shortly for Appleton Reservoir.

On Saturday Jimmy Byrne headed the individual weights in our Warrington Local League with a mixed net of roach and skimmers for 6-11-12 all taken on bread punch. By contrast second placed Ross Wightman had an all roach net of 6-2-12 on caster. Cheshire Gold took team honours with 69 points followed by Saints on 62.

The Sunday Mersey Series fished really hard and with extra water in the river everyone opted for feeder tactics. Winner Paul Harding had 3lbs of small roach and in the frame again was Jimmy Byrne with a similar catch for 2-3-0.

The Disabled& Over 60's Fur & Feather match fished on Monday at Statham was won by Jimmy Byrne with 2-8-2 of small roach taken on the pole and punch bread. Second place was joint between George Barber and Pete Critchley, both on 2-6-2. Running in tandem with these matches throughout the year was the John Lavery Memorial Trophy for honorary members and those over 65years. Run on a points basis Jimmy Byrne was a clear winner of the series with 11 points followed by George Barber on 19.  Thanks must go to the Star Inn at Statham, match organiser John Dagnall (who I believe actually broke the pound barrier this week), and Cheshire Angling for sourcing the prizes. Nobody went home empty handed.

You may not have yet picked up on the fact that this week Jimmy Byrne won on three occasions and was runner up on the other. Now that is a real class act! Well done Jimmy.
