Sankey Canal

Access to the Sankey Canal at Carterhouse is temporarily closed to members.

This is due to a serious water leak. Halton Borough Council are working
on the problem.

Guardian Notes 26 June 08

Our rivers fisheries seem to be in great form so far with good numbers of salmon reported from the Severn as wall as barbel to 11lb. Keith Barnett went to the Severn at Loton Park on opening day and by 12noon had landed four barbel the best being 8lb 6oz.

The Dee is producing good catches of chub of the 1 to 3lb stamp and lots of roach around the 1lb mark as well as odd brown trout. There are plenty of barbel showing around 11/2lb in the Almere ferry area.

The Alyn turned up trumps for Mark Brooks on Saturday. His tally twelve grayling two over 2lb four over a 1lb several brownies and two chub all on a gold head ptn well worth a visit.

Our bailiff Ron Evans is pleased with the way the Dane is fishing, although the river is low members are catching well, best bag on opening day was taken by Gary Wakeman of 6 chub to 31/2 lb and two grayling of 111/2lb while Steve Nunnen had the best chub at 4lb. Last Thursday Chris Edwards found the river still low but with a tinge of colour she had eight chub with the best being an amazing 6lb all on hair rigged bread floated down the swim, she also had a barbel of 2lb. Ron has always predicted much bigger chub in this small river and he has been proved right.

The Mersey is still down as I write but hopefully will be returning to normal levels very soon

it is an ideal opportunity to have a recce and plot all the underwater obstacles for future visits!

Work is continuing on Statham pools and most pegs are now repaired and fishable however members should please note if work is going on this takes precedence. So be prepared to move if requested and better still join in and give the lads a hand.

The our junior team came fourth at the NJAA Knockout final at Decoy Lakes in Peterborough

They did us proud considering two of the youngsters were drafted in at the last minute and had never fished a National match before let alone on a commercial carp water. So well done to all the team and big thank you to Tom, Helen and all the adults involved who make it possible for them to go and compete like this.

Also well done to new angler nine year old Morgan Adwee who attended his first ever minnows session last week, caught his new personnel best bream which weighed in at 2lb 12oz and won his first ever match not bad for one evenings fishing.

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
